Philosophy

Six principles shape every decision behind boulingua.

Open access

Education materials should be free to use, share, and adapt. Boulingua draws only on openly licensed sources and publishes everything under open licences — MIT for code, CC-BY-SA 4.0 for content. No paywalls, no logins, no tracking.

Curriculum alignment

Units are not generic. Every lesson maps to specific competencies — by school year and Niveau for the language curricula, by CEFR descriptor for the international track. Alignment is the work; the rest follows from it.

Consistency over novelty

All four sister sites share an identical design system. A teacher who works across English, French, and German never has to re-learn an interface. Consistency is what makes a platform feel like a platform.

Quality over quantity

Every resource in the Ressourcen-Hub is manually reviewed before inclusion. Commercial sources are excluded entirely — not because they lack quality, but because the goal is a hub of materials any teacher can use, share, and adapt without restriction.

Transparency

The entire platform is open source. Every repository is public on GitHub. Teachers can inspect, fork, and adapt anything — a unit, a chapter, a whole site.

Multilingualism

Languages do not exist in isolation in a learner's head. Boulingua treats English, French, and German as a connected system — shared metalinguistic vocabulary, cross-references between cognates and false friends, units that build on what learners already know from another language. The goal is multilingual competence, not three separate monolingualisms.
