Sam wakes up with a sore throat. He drinks tea, eats honey, refuses to admit defeat, and goes to school. By the second period, he has a strong opinion about the value of staying home. By the fourth period, his classmates have made it clear that they share his opinion. Strongly.

Body parts mime. Teacher says a body part; class touches it as fast as possible. head, ear, shoulder, knee, ankle, elbow, eye, throat, stomach.

Body: head, hair, eye, ear, nose, mouth, tongue, neck, shoulder, arm, elbow, hand, finger, chest, stomach, back, leg, knee, ankle, foot, toe. Illness: a cold, a cough, the flu, a sore throat, a headache, a stomachache, an earache, a fever, a runny nose.

Common pitfalls Link to heading

  • I am cold (= temperature) vs. I have a cold (= illness).
  • My head hurts me → ✗ / My head hurts OR I have a headache → ✓.
  • L1 trap: German Ich habe Halsschmerzen → English I have a sore throat (singular).
