Frida the fox sits in the school canteen. She has never tried apple juice before. Mia hands her a cup. Frida tastes it. “This,” she says, “is the second best thing I have ever tried.” “What’s the first?” Theo asks. Frida grins. “Chicken.”

Food: apple, banana, bread, cheese, egg, fish, chicken, potato, rice, salad, soup, sausage. Drinks: water, milk, tea, coffee, juice, lemonade. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Grammar — like / don’t like + indefinite article Link to heading
- I like apples. (general — no article needed for plurals)
- I don’t like cheese. (uncountable — no article)
- I want an apple. (specific singular — a/an)

- Use an before vowel sounds: an apple, an orange, an egg, an hour.

- a apple → ✗ / an apple → ✓.
- I like an apples → ✗ — for general likes, no article with plurals.
- L1 trap: German Ich möchte einen Tee — English I’d like a tea (no einen).
