Mia opens the door of her room. The bed is on the right. The desk is on the left. There is a poster of a fox over the bed. There is a small green plant on the desk. Frida the fox jumps onto the windowsill. “Tidy room,” she says. “For now,” Mia says.

Grammar — there is / there are Link to heading
Use there is with a singular noun, there are with plural.
- There is a bed in my room.
- There are two windows in my room.
- Is there a desk? — Yes, there is.
- Are there chairs? — Yes, there are.
- There is no lamp. / There aren’t any chairs.
Prepositions of place Link to heading
on, under, in, next to, between, behind, in front of, above. Quick map: The cat is on the bed. The shoes are under the bed. The lamp is next to the desk.

Common pitfalls Link to heading
- It has a bed → unusual for room has — prefer there is.
- There is two beds → ✗ / There are two beds → ✓.
- L1 trap: German Es gibt always maps to there is/are, never to it gives.
