Eli pinned a job ad on the wall above his desk: marine biologist, southern Spain, fluent English required, must enjoy boats. He has neither a degree, nor a passport, nor — by his own admission — sea legs. Mr. Yilmaz says, “Eli, the ad isn’t hiring you. The ad is keeping you company.” Eli nods, leaves it on the wall.
