Lead-in story Link to heading
Lina is in a strange mood. Sam asks why. “I don’t know,” she says. “I’m tired and slightly proud and a tiny bit jealous all at the same time.” Sam nods. “That’s called Tuesday afternoon,” he says. “It happens to everyone.”

Mood scan. Stand on a line: very happy (left wall) → very sad (right wall). Find your spot. No talking. Teacher reads three short statements; students adjust position.

Feelings you can use: proud, nervous, calm, grateful, jealous, frustrated, content, overwhelmed.
Extension (above Niveau E / Oberstufe).
Interview two people of different ages (for example a classmate and an adult) about how they show a strong feeling such as anger or pride without ever naming it. Then write a short paragraph comparing the two: describe what body language, tone of voice, or word choice gave each feeling away, and argue why one and the same emotion can look completely different from one person to another.
Common pitfalls Link to heading
- because + clause; because of + noun: because the rain → ✗ / because of the rain / because it was raining → ✓.
- although + clause: Although tired … → informal, but in writing prefer Although I am tired.
- Pastoral note: keep prompts low-stakes.
